from husband Bill, June 9, 2026

I am taking donations to buy Donald a pair of pants. 😉

from husband Bill, June 9, 2026

I have endured nine surgeries between March 2022 and May 2026: 1 heart, 2 chest, 2 spine, 1 right ankle, 1 both legs, 1 left foot, 1 left leg. Believe me, I am in touch with many doctors.

... not for me ... I dislike strawberries, and I think that I dislike rhubarb.

Today Is ...

What more can I say? I like jelly-filled donuts/doughnuts, particularly raspberry, cherry, blueberry, and apple.

I am reminded of a donut-shop baker whom I interviewed, as a new business owner, for a newspaper in upstate New York in 1989, maybe 1990, when I was just starting my journalistic career (series of gigs). For my article, I wrote that if readers wanted to know how the jelly got inside a jelly donut, they would have to ask the baker because I wasn't going to reveal his secret. Yeah, I know that was rather corny, but back then I was the quintessential neophyte.

My "poison" is Campari and orange juice in an Old Fashioned glass over ice. I haven't had one in quite a while.

Dinner

Dinner (delivery): Sushi, specifically Fried Bagel Roll, photo below: salmon, cream cheese, white rice, and scallions wrapped with seaweed, and then tempura-fried. Of course, it is accompanied by pickled ginger and "wasabi." I also enjoyed gyoza (Japanese pork dumplings) with a soy sauce-based dipping sauce.

Of the basic flavors, I prefer chocolate ice cream to vanilla ice cream, and I dislike strawberry ice cream.

Ladies, today (technically yesterday, as the first Saturday in June) would be a good day to travel to the forest to visit the bear you would prefer to encounter than a man. (I'm only half joking.)

On a hunting trip in Canada long ago, my uncle shot and had mounted a record-setting, 650-pound black bear. My mom and I nicknamed him Max after the boxer Max Baer, whose son, Max Baer Jr., played Jethro Bodine on the TV sitcom "The Beverly Hillbillies." Both my uncle and his father (my grandfather) were pugilists.

June 7 is National Cancer Survivor's Day.

I still have many VCR-format videotapes, but no videotape player. I even have videotapes with the PAL format from Austria, which I couldn't play here in the United States even if I had a video player due to incompatibility. I watched one tape long ago at my cousin's home in Austria of a pop concert tour of Rainhard Fendrich that we had attended with her and her then-husband in Vienna, Austria, in 1997. Yeah, I brought the tape with me on a subsequent vacation to Austria so that we could watch it together.

My dad purchased a videotape recorder in the mid-1970s. I remember that one of my earliest recordings from when I was 15 years old was of George Harrison and Paul Simon performing on the show Saturday Night Live in 1976. Also in the 1970s, I recorded a music show with promotional films of ABBA and Thin Lizzy, and a live concert by the Electric Light Orchestra.

I do like the occasional applesauce cake.

from husband Bill, June 6, 2026

I have a fair amount of higher education: a bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in the French language from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania (graduated: December 1984); and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri (graduated: May 1988). I also have TWO high school diplomas: June 1979 from West Islip High School in West Islip, Long Island, New York; and May 1980 from Northfield Mount Hermon School (two campuses in northern Massachusetts).

from husband Bill, June 6, 2026

I prefer Prosecco to Champagne.

Improv Video: Enhanced

from husband Bill, June 5, 2026

I decided to visually enhance one of my older piano improvisations from October 22, 2019, and upload it onto my YouTube channel. (length: 3 minutes, 1 second)

I like to sit at my digital piano and just start playing whatever is in my head at that time. I make it up as I go along. This is my method with all of my piano improvisations.

I like those Krispy Creme vanilla custard-filled or vanilla frosting-filled doughnuts with the chocolate glaze on top. I also like Tim Hortons vanilla custard-filled donuts with the maple glaze on top.

Dunkin' Donuts

Krispy Creme Doughnuts

Notice the spelling difference. When I was a journalist (1982-2017), this was just one of thousands of bits of information that I needed to know, just in case. (It came up once.)

Oh yeah !!! I also like Krapfen, which are Austrian jelly donuts popular during the days before and on Fasching (Mardi Gras).

from husband Bill, June 5, 2026

I have restarted my life many, MANY times due to many changes throughout my life: many educational facilities, many jobs, many religions, many living locations, many medical issues, many interests, however, just a couple of women.

from husband Bill, June 5, 2026

I like ketchup on hot dogs, scrambled eggs, and omelets, but for french fries, I prefer traditional mayonnaise and sometimes tartar sauce.

from husband Bill, June 5, 2026

I used to eat veggie burgers when I used to be a vegetarian. I occasionally still do.

from husband Bill, June 5, 2026

I somewhat like gingerbread. I do like crystallized ginger and ginger-honey-lemon tea.

Today Is ...

from husband Bill, June 4, 2026

DISCLAIMER: I have considered myself to be an armchair anthropologist for many decades. I have a strong interest in regard to how people interact with each other. That's one of the many reasons why I became a journalist (1982 to 2017). Perhaps, I solidified my interest in anthropology when I took two university courses titled "Interpersonal Communications I and II" in the early 1980s, when I was in my early 20s.

Today is a day to honor "old maids," also known as spinsters (older, sometimes younger, women who never married nor have children). The number of old maids has increased in recent years and continues to increase rapidly. A recent scientific study determined that by 2030, at least 55 percent of women here in the United States are expected to be unmarried and childless.

Women who wait until their 30s because they are concentrating on their careers instead of marrying and starting families in their 20s are sadly discovering that men their own age actually prefer women who are younger than them, mainly for reasons of stronger fertility and less "baggage." It really is quite an interesting trend.

I recently read that financial investors are now focusing more on wine companies and cat food producers. It sounds like a joke, but it's true.

Also, I played the card game Old Maid when I was a young kid in the 1960s.

I enjoy almost all kinds of cheeses, but I would say that my favorite cheese is Leyden, a semisoft, mild Dutch cheese that contains whole cumin seeds and whole caraway seeds. Of course, I like the basic Italian cheeses: Ricotta, Mozzarella, Provolone, Parmesan, Romano, Asiago, and Gorgonzola. I also like a stinky Blue Cheese and an extra sharp orange Cheddar. ... and don't forget a sturdy Emmentaler.

from husband Bill, June 4, 2026

I enjoyed the occasional cognac, but I haven't imbibed in quite a while.
